I had a lot of surprise when I visited Gigabyte this time. First of all, it is about the sanitation. I was surprised that the people who came to visit the company were also required to pay attention to the sanitation. When entering the factory, I thought that the smell was a bit hard. I guess that this is the reason that people working there were wearing masks. They were wearing something like a wrist band to let static electricity escape from their hands. They make very delicate things, so I thought that they have to pay attention to the details. Also, I felt there was a different atmosphere from that of Japanese companies. Most workers there are women, which was my surprise. Their work is simple but seems tough. Therefore, I thought it is good to have them have 5-minute breaks between works. |

With this opportunity to visit the company, I
knew the company for the first time. I thought that it is actually a
very wonderful company. The products made here are incorporated into
as one of the parts of the products Japanese companies make. So, I |

The first impression I had on visiting Gigabyte is that it is a very big. When I went inside, I was told to wear a blue bag on my shoes. I went inside and had the presentation. The person who explained to us was a very good Japanese speaker. I learned that Gigabyte doesn’t sell its cell phone so well, which was my surprise. When the presentation was over, we were introduced to the place where the workers make its products. As for how to make its products, welding are done by machines and workers inspect the products and also do the works which machines cannot do. As machinery processing has increased nowadays, people say that manual works is decreasing and the number of unemployed people is increasing. So, I do not want to have the skills which everybody can have but the skills which few people have and want to be needed to work. |

I made a bit research on Gigabyte before I joined
this program of overseas exchange. I knew that it is making parts of
electric products such as motherboards. But, I was surprised to
learn that it was producing cellular phones in the past. Also, I
learned the parts are used in the products of other companies such
as Intel. Another thing I learned is that the fact that Gigabyte
doesn’t transfer its factory to other countries. I thought that the
company dedicates itself to support local workers. Unfortunately,
manual work of the factory is disappearing by the introduction of
machines. So, I was wondering what kind |

Visiting Gigabyte, I knew that big companies have to cooperate with the locals for long time. In case of Gigabyte, people in Taiwan are hired and they’ve been working for it for many years so that the local workers can have a stable life and get sufficient earnings. By continuing to hire skilled people, Gigabyte is stable in making good quality products and avoid spending time and effort labor to train new workers. People in Taiwan often lose their jobs and there are people who become homeless without jobs. So, it is supposed that both Taiwanese people and Gigabyte have a win-win situation. I also want to join a company which deeply connects to the region, like Gigabyte in the future. |

I thought Gigabyte is a company that put the importance on its staff. For example, Gigabyte didn’t relocate its plant into China because it wanted to protect its staff’s employment. I thought that this kind of effort contributes to the success that many employees have been working for Gigabyte for many years. Also, I thought Gigabyte is a company that is looking for its improvement diligently. I heard that Gigabyte is making its effort to make its products much useful and better. I found a new machine which incorporates the latest technology in the plant. The visit was also a good opportunity for me to learn technology. I was curious to the machines in the plant. I was wondering how the machines detect where it should place the condensers into motherboards. |

I was very happy to see famous overseas company that people usually can’t see. Especially, I was happy because the company relates to my favorite PCs. It was a great opportunity to observe the manufacturing process of the motherboards. To be honest, I doubted that overseas companies are being run properly. However, I was amazed to see the manufacturing sites where both people and machines are working together. The machines there work accurately to make delicate parts. Each worker contributes to make its products in the production lines. The majority of people who are working there are so called “veterans”, or experienced workers, and I learned that they have worked for the company for more than five years, which was my great surprise. All visitors have to put the blue cover for their shoes to keep the factory clean. When I got an explanation, I thought it was awesome because it was explained in Japanese by a Taiwanese worker. In the explanation, I was impressed very much when I heard that they are collaborating with companies in many countries. The tour of Gigabyte made me have more interested in PCs and its related matters. I was really a good visit. |

Through what I learned during the visit, I realized that manual labor is getting less in the factory. This time I saw how to process motherboards. It was not only the most complicated work such as soldering but also the final inspection that machines are doing. So, I thought that people would disappear from the factory in the near future. If this happens, the company can reduce the cost necessary for the employment and work efficiency might improve. However, for factory workers, it will be very sad because they would lose their jobs. So I don’t think that I want to work in industrial factories company in the future. |

Gigabyte is active in the world as a company making personal computers and PC’s equipment. In addition, it engages in producing motherboards, which are used by many companies around the world, especially by Japanese companies such as Fujitsu. In Gigabyte, workers are working in production lines, which is a similar production style to Japanese automobile factories. I think it’s effective to raise the work productivity. Most of the factories in Japan today use automatic machines for making products, but Gigabyte Co., Ltd. uses a lot of people to do the job by human's hands rather than machines. In the near future, it seems that manpower in the factory will be machinery for all Japanese automobile factories. Although my specialty is different from ICT, which was the main focus of the tour of Gigabyte this time, it gave me an opportunity to think about the future engineering and I could learn a lot. Thank you for giving us a precious opportunity. |

I thought that many electronic devices made in China and Taiwan are mostly inferior to ones which are made in Japan. But that notion was changed after I visited Gigabyte. I thought that the company runs the same as major manufacturers do in Japan having the introduction to the company’s overview, management philosophy and the factory tour at GIGABYTE. The factory automation was advanced by the installation of many machines such as Circuit Board Printer and High Speed Chip Mounter. Also, the proportion of highly skilled workers contributes to make the quality of the company’s product high. I think that GIGABYTE is growing not because of the reduction of the price of its products but cautious quality control and warranty service. |
